Draft Public Service Ombudsman Bill - NALC Response - PR4-17

NALC's response to the recent government consultation document.

NALC is concerned at the proposal that the PSO will have the capacity to cover all 10,000 parishes and it thinks the government needs to address this matter. Those parishes, especially the small ones, will need some additional support in terms of training, advice and procedures.

Extending Local Full Fibre Networks - NALC response PR03-17

Battle's Over - Commemoration - 11th November 2018

A letter from Bruno Peek, LVO OBE OPR, Pageantmaster, setting out plans for a series of beacons to be lit across the country on 11th November 2018 to commemorate the end of the First World War.

Detailed co-ordination begins in April 2017 but the reason for sending the information out so far in advance is that the vast majority of organisations participating have already started their planning.

Councils are requested to confirm their involvement by providing details as soon as possible to ensure that they are included in the official guide when published and put on the events website at the end of April.

Draft Public Service Ombudsman Bill PC17-16

The Cabinet Office has published draft legislation setting out the Government's plans for a new Public Service Ombudsman (PSO) which will abolish the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) and the Local Government Ombudsman (LGO).

The Draft Bill also proposes to bring parish and councils into the scope of the new Ombudsman. This is NALC's provisional response to the consultation.

Local Audit (Public Access to Documents) Bill - Informal Consultation PR21-16

NALC's response to the Informal Consultation on the Local Audit (Public Access to Documents) Bill, which is a short 'handout' Bill.

It makes a short amendment to the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014 which will permit 'journalists' to inspect the accounting records of local authorities and other bodies covered by the 2014 Act.
