Graham Martin

I was born and brought up in Hammersmith London. I attended the local primary school, John Betts, and on passing the 11-plus it was decided I should attend Holland Park Comprehensive School.

On leaving school I started as a supernumerary trainee clerk with the new London Borough of Hammersmith and gained experience in the main departments over the course of a year. I went on to the environmental Health Department and then to the School Health Section (Dental) where I was responsible for 5 clinics including staff. From here I transferred to Social Services, Finance where I had dealings with Government Departments, other Local Authorities, private organisations as well as members of the public.

During the course of my Local Government employment I was chosen to represent my colleagues within the Council's Staff Association.

I decided to take a change of career and found employment with the Prudential as a field agent. I moved to the Cooperative Insurance Society where after a short while I was promoted from agent to District Inspector.

Due to severe health problems I had to take early retirement and came to Cornwall to recover and be with my family. While recovering I became the carer for my elderly parents.

In the last few years, I was elected onto the Housing Forum of the Cornwall Council's Housing Company.

In 2017 I was elected onto St Mabyn Parish Council where I am now chair of the Planning subcommittee and represent the Parish on a number of organisations.
